Celtic backed to make a strong statement by loaning Manchester United star Dean Henderson

According to Football Insider (h/t The Sun), Scottish giants Celtic have been backed to make a statement of intent if they can secure Manchester United star Dean Henderson on loan.

That is the opinion of former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish. Celtic are currently second in the SPL and trail Rangers by nine points. However, they do have two games in hand.

The Bhoys do appear to have an issue when it comes to their goalkeeping spot.

“He’s quite special. From the footage I saw of him from the whole of last season he was at a fabulous level.”

Celtic failed to bring back Southampton shot-stopper Fraser Foster after letting Craig Gordon leave on a free. They eventually brought in Vasilis Barkas, who has been dropped in recent weeks for Scott Bain.

This has seen Celtic get linked with a move for Henderson this upcoming January.

The English international returned to United this summer after two fruitful years on loan at Sheffield United. The 23-year-old has grown frustrated at being the backup to David De Gea at Old Trafford and wants to temporarily leave for game time.

Henderson’s sentiments are understandable given that the Euros is now less than a year away. Despite his poor showings this season, Jordan Pickford started in goal for England against Iceland.

Henderson could only get a place on the bench. A chance to play regularly could improve his chances of gaining Gareth Southgate’s attention.

According to the report, United appear open to allowing the youngster to depart again for further experience.

Henderson has been restricted to just three appearances for United this term. With David de Gea back to his best, the chances of him usurping the Spaniard’s spot is also unlikely.

Maybe another loan move away could prove to be beneficial after all.
