Gary Neville hits back at Angel di Maria after his wife’s comments
According to Sky Sports (h/t Mirror), Manchester United legend Gary Neville has hit back at Angel di Maria and his wife following the latter’s disparaging comments on the city.
The Argentine star joined United from Real Madrid for a mammoth £59.7million in 2014. His stay at Old Trafford was a disaster, with him scoring just four goals in 32 appearances. He would eventually be sold to PSG the very next summer.
The player’s wife, Jorgelina Cardoso revealed that she begged her husband to not leave Madrid for Manchester. She went on to launch a spiteful attack on both the food and the people, in what clearly showed a total lack of respect.
“The people were all skinny, neat, weird. You are walking and you don’t know if they are going to kill you or not.”
The comments were met head-on by Neville, who slammed Di Maria’s spell at Old Trafford.
“I had great expectations and sort of excitement when he came to the club thinking we’d signed a top player. But he was never interested from day one.”
Neville compared the Argentine’s scenario to his countrymen Sergio Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta, both of whom thrived at Manchester City.
He did, however, acknowledge the difficulties the couple faced when their home was burgled in 2015. However, her efforts to generalize and bad mouth a city due to a bad experience is unfounded and petty.
A biased view!
Although Neville can sympathize with Cardoso’s experience, he believes there are good people in the city who deserve better credit.
“I will defend my city to the hilt.”
Neville was an excellent defender in his day, and he has now admitted that he will now continue to defend his city off the pitch as well.

Di Maria was nothing short of a disaster at United. The club have put it behind them and moved on to bigger and better things.
The player, however, still seems stuck in the past. It is about time he realized he has zero relevance at United.
