Erik ten Hag says key Manchester United players are nowhere close to a return as busy January beckons

While speaking to Metro, Erik ten Hag confirmed that Manchester United stars Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro could still be weeks away from a return to action. Both players have recently been spotted in training.

The Red Devils who have already lost 14 games across all competitions so far this season desperately need these players on the pitch. Both Casemiro and Martinez haven’t featured for the team since picking up injuries in September.

Casemiro is currently recovering from a hamstring issue, while the Argentine defender battles a foot injury. Both were expected to be ready within the next few days, so Ten Hag’s words definitely come as a blow to the fans.

The Dutchman did look somewhat optimistic about the duo, but he says that the pair have only been participating in partial training. It seems like their bodies are not quite ready for a full training session.

Fans were counting on these two players to be available for the game against Tottenham on 14th January. Casemiro and Martinez might not return but there is still hope for Mason Mount and Tyrell Malacia to return by that time.
