Manchester United want to sign proven goal-scoring machine and Galatasaray forward Mauro Icardi to solve their offensive problems. Icardi has enjoyed a prolific season with the Galatasaray so far, rejuvenating his goal-scoring form after struggles at Paris Saint-Germain.

United’s attacking department has struggled with individual form and lack of cohesion, failing to score a decent amount of goals. They have already crashed out of the Champions League and the Carabao Cup due to their dreadful form this season.

The Red Devils have failed to score in nine out of 27 games in all competitions, causing a serious concern. Experienced forwards Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have faced criticism for the inconsistency that has plagued their careers.

Last season’s signing, Antony failed to live up to the huge expectations that came with his massive price tag. Furthermore, the Red Devils signed Rasmus Hojlund to bolster their attacking this season and lead the lineup.

The 20-year-old struggled to score his first Premier League goal until his winner against Aston Villa on Boxing Day. Hojlund scored five goals in the Champions League campaign and kept his regular place in the starting eleven despite the struggles.

The Danish forward needs healthy competition and a goal-scoring option to ease the pressure of scoring off him. Fichajes reported that United are willing to battle Tottenham Hotspur to sign Icardi from Galatasaray and bolster their attack.

Icardi is a proven goal-scorer, having the experience of playing in many top leagues and achieving a big reputation. The 30-year-old has 243 career goals from 436 matches, playing at clubs like Inter Milan, PSG and Sampdoria.

The Argentine struggled at PSG due to playing second-fiddle to some of the best players in the world. However, he has regained his former goal-scoring form since moving to Galatasaray, enjoying a prolific season. Icardi has contributed 17 goals and six assists from 27 games in all competitions so far this season.

United need a prolific striker and Icardi fits the profile perfectly with age that is beneficial for Hojlund. Hojlund is still raw and he would benefit from having an experienced forward like Icardi to take pressure off him.
