Man United could end up losing out on Liga Portugal star this summer

As reported by Metro, Manchester United are currently standing to lose out on Primeira Liga star, Morten Hjulmand. The 24-year-old recently made a move to Sporting CP and has been wanted by the Red Devils ever since.

There was also some talk suggesting that Man United tried to swap Hjulmand for their young starlet, Facundo Pellistri back in January. However, the bid was rejected by the Portuguese side.

Hjulmand also shed some light on where his future is. Let’s have a look at what the 24-year-old midfielder had to say while talking about his situation at his current club, Sporting CP. (h/t Metro)

‘It was the right step [to sign for Sporting CP] and I’m very happy to be here.’

‘Estadio Jose Alvalade is a very special place to play. I feel at home,’

All signs currently indicate that Hjulmand is very happy with his current club. So, the Red Devils might have to look elsewhere as the team tries to bolster their middle line during the summer.

To make matters worse for the Red Devils, it is being reported that Sporting CP plans on reviewing the 24-year-old’s salary and could try and move him into a captaincy role during the summer.

Man United could still swoop in and pay the Hjulmand’s £69m release clause. However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe will likely not be willing to pay so much for a player who hasn’t proven himself at the very top level.

The team has also been linked to Benfica midfielder Joao Neves. The 19-year-old would make an excellent pairing with young Kobbie Mainoo. The two are amongst the most exciting young players in the world.
