Mauro Icardi interested as Manchester United make informal enquiry for PSG forward
According to Get French Football News via UtdDistrict on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have made an informal enquiry with the entourage of Mauro Icardi. The Argentine is said to be tempted by the opportunity to play at Old Trafford.
Icardi aspires for a move to United this summer. The club have talked through intermediaries, but it hasn’t gone beyond that. The Red Devils have yet to start any sort of negotiations with PSG.
The 29-year-old joined the Parisians in 2019 from Inter Milan. But the Argentine hasn’t had the best of times in France. Game time has been hard to come by for Icardi, with other forwards ahead of him in the pecking order.
However, the former Sampdoria forward was one of the best goalscorers in Serie A for a few years in his time with Inter. For the Nerazzurri, the 29-year-old featured in 219 games, scoring 124 goals.
United are evidently in need of more reinforcements up front. Over the last few years, the quality in our forward line has gone down. Even though we signed Cristiano Ronaldo last summer, the 2021/22 season saw the side struggling for goals.
When the Portuguese didn’t manage to find the back of the net, the Manchester-based club wasn’t able to rely on other options. Ronaldo finished as our top goalscorer in the previous campaign, with Bruno Fernandes finishing behind him in terms of goals.
Marcus Rashford has faltered for some time in a red shirt. After breaking out from the academy, fans thought the 24-year-old would be the next big star at United. The England international did show promise, but last season was one of his worst for the club.
Jadon Sancho has also found it hard to settle into the Manchester-based club. The 22-year-old hasn’t been able to replicate the form he showed at Borussia Dortmund at Old Trafford.

Supporters want United to bolster the attack, but they aren’t excited about Icardi because of his off-field antics. So it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils put in an offer for the Argentine.
