Atalanta boss hopes for a massive fee for Manchester United target Rasmus Hojlund

Gian Piero Gasperini, the manager of Atalanta, hopes that the Serie A outfit get around €100 million for Manchester United target Rasmus Hojlund.

The Red Devils have been linked with the Denmark international in the ongoing transfer window. However, it remains to be seen how much the Old Trafford side will be comfortable spending to acquire the 20-year-old’s services this summer.

Speaking to Sky via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Gasperini, who has been with La Dea since 2016, wants the Bergamo-based club to receive a massive price tag for Hojlund, who he showered praise on.

“I don’t know whether he’ll stay or leave — but I hope the club will value Højlund around €80, 90 or 100m fee. Rasmus is one of the best — if not the best — emerging talent in Europe as a striker.”

Atalanta signed the youngster from Sturm Graz in the summer of 2022. In his debut season at the Gewiss Stadium, the striker established himself as a key player for the Bergamo-based club.

Gasperini counted on the 20-year-old to lead the line for the Italian outfit. He made 34 appearances in all competitions for La Dea in the 2022/23 term, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists.

Apart from becoming a key part of Atalanta’s plans in the previous campaign, Hojlund also took the international stage by storm. The 20-year-old has six goals in six caps for Denmark.

United struggled to find the back of the net last season. The Red Devils scored 58 Premier League goals in the 2022/23 term, the same number as Brentford. With all due respect to the Bees, we evidently need to be much better.

Erik ten Hag had injury-prone Anthony Martial at his disposal in the number nine position in the previous campaign. We also got Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley in January to provide cover upfront.

Thus, the Old Trafford side evidently need to add more firepower up front. Will Hojlund be the one who the Manchester-based club will rely on to solve their attacking issues? Only time will tell.
