Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund ready to hand transfer request to force Manchester United deal

As per Football Transfers (h/t Manchester Evening News), 20-year-old sensation Rasmus Hojlund will consider handing a transfer request to Atalanta to push through a move to Manchester United.

It is also revealed that talks are ongoing for United to sign the Danish international. A few days ago, the Telegraph (subscription required) reported that the club would make an offer of around £50m in an attempt to get this deal done.

That report also stated that any deal is only possible after the club sale process is cleared up by the Glazers.

After seeing Anthony Martial struggle for consistency and availability last season, it was clear that Erik ten Hag must sign a striker this summer to have a chance of doing better next season.

United and ten Hag earmarked England captain Harry Kane as their primary target but withdrew their interest due to the potential cost involved in the deal. It is anyway very tough to negotiate with an owner like Daniel Levy.

Hojlund, who arrived at Atalanta from Sturm Graz last summer, had an excellent first season in Italy. He scored 10 goals and assisted four in 34 appearances but only 1897 minutes in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

There is one risk attached to this deal if United get it done. While the Danish star is a fantastic striker who has everything to shine in years to come, he only has one season behind him in one of Europe’s elite leagues, that too where he did not start a lot of games and had to come off the bench.

Do United and ten Hag want to sign a player with that sort of experience? Or are they just desperate to get a striker in this summer and hope he comes and hits the ground running? If the latter is the answer, then they are in a blind alley for sure. Let’s hope the manager has a plan behind all of this.
