Manchester United turned down an opportunity to sign Chelsea star Christian Pulisic
As per Metro (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United turned down a chance to sign Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic to prioritise getting other targets.
The report revealed that the USA international has suggested his desire to look for a new challenge away from Chelsea this summer.
Daily Mail has reported that Pulisic is a subject of interest from French side Lyon and fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace. He is open to moving to the former.
One can understand why United turned down the opportunity to get him. The former Borussia Dortmund star likes to operate on the left wing, a position in which Marcus Rashford has expertise.
Hence, if the Red Devils sign a number nine this summer, Erik ten Hag would most probably play Rashford on the left all season long.
So, it won’t make sense to spend money on another player of a similar position, knowing that he wants to leave his current club due to lack of game time there.
United are doing some business talks with Chelsea over the potential signing of Mason Mount in the last few weeks. It has not gone the former’s way with the latter recently rejecting a third bid for the England international.
Ten Hag wants to sign Mount because he is impressed by the athleticism and technical quality the 24-year-old possesses.
Coming back to Pulisic, United are right in not pursuing a deal for the American star. He is still young though (24) and can reignite his career by doing well for his next club.
