Bayern Munich are attempting to beat Manchester United to Chelsea star Mason Mount

According to the Guardian, Bayern Munich have intensified their interest in Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount and are planning to beat Manchester United to the 24-year-old’s signature.

Mount, who has only one year remaining on his contract, is expected to depart Stamford Bridge during the current transfer window. He has shown little interest in penning a new deal and an exit looks extremely likely.

As stated by the Athletic (subscription required), the Red Devils have had three offers for the English midfielder rejected so far, with the latest bid of £55 million (including potential add-ons) turned down by Chelsea on Friday.

The London club are seeking a fee closer to £65 million for their prized asset. However, the Guardian suggests that Chelsea might be willing to accept a lower offer from clubs outside of England. It remains uncertain whether Mount is open to leaving the Premier League for a new challenge.

The Bavarian giants have been notoriously linked to United’s ‘key target’. Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel holds high regard for Mount following their successful time together at Chelsea.

Hence, it is expected that Tuchel is interested in bringing Mount to Bayern. The versatile English midfielder is capable of playing in both the number eight and ten positions.

He possesses excellent goal-scoring and assisting abilities, as well as the ability to adapt to pressure and put in hard work defensively. These qualities have earned Mount high praise from the majority of his previous managers.

However, we believe that the Bundesliga champion’s move for the Blues star seems illogical due to the existing depth in their squad for the number eight and ten positions.

Bayern already have a strong lineup of players, including Leon Goretzka, Jamal Musiala, Thomas Muller, Konrad Laimer, and Ryan Gravenberch, who can operate effectively in these roles. Additionally, if Die Roten were to secure a new number six signing, Joshua Kimmich could also be deployed in the number eight or ten position.

Therefore, for Mount to join Bayern, it would necessitate the club selling at least two central midfielders during this transfer window.

In our opinion, the German giants would be careful about spending big on a position that is already well-covered in their squad.

Once bitten, twice shy?

Although Chelsea might be willing to reduce their asking price for foreign clubs, they still expect to receive at least £50 million for Mount. Man United fans will be slightly worried about this latest development, as they have already seen their top defensive target, Kim Min-jae, agree to personal terms with the Bavarian giants.

Bayern Munich appear to have stolen Kim Min-jae from Manchester United’s grasp.

The supporters will breathe a huge sigh of relief if United can convince Chelsea to bend to their minimal valuation. The Red Devils are firm on their valuation and are not afraid to walk away if the Blues fail to reduce their asking price.
