Lazio are interested in signing fringe Manchester United defender Eric Bailly
As per Mirror transfer live, Serie A side Lazio are interested in signing out-of-favour Manchester United defender Eric Bailly this summer.
The report also reveals that the Ivory Coast international is also being offered to clubs in Saudi Arabia. His current contract at Old Trafford expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt).
Bailly was on loan at French side Marseille for the 2022/23 season. He made only 23 appearances in all competitions for them in that time, not even surpassing the 1000-minute playing time. Such was the low count of the appearances that it could not trigger his permanent move to the Velodrome.
The 29-year-old arrived at United from Villarreal back in 2016. Although a talented player on his day, the former Espanyol youth player lacked consistency.
With his contract expiring next summer, it would be sensible if the Red Devils find a buyer for him sooner rather than later.
The underwhelming loan spell would not have encouraged Erik ten Hag to give the defender a chance before thinking about his future.
Moreover, United have better centre-backs in the squad who would do a better job with greater consistency. Having an erratic player like Bailly may not help in the building of a winning mentality in the changing room.
It would be interesting to see which club makes an offer for him. Lazio finished second in Serie A last season. They might be aiming to build a squad that can challenge in the Champions League and possibly aim higher in the league table.

Saudi clubs, on the other hand, are buying a lot of players from European clubs this summer. It would not be a surprise if they make a bid for Bailly in the coming days. Nothing is impossible for them these days – financially or thinking-wise.
