Manchester United are looking at Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo after bid for Mason Mount was rejected
According to the Times (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have decided to drop their interest in Chelsa midfielder Mason Mount and instead are looking at other possible targets with Brighton & Hove Albion’s midfielder Moises Caicedo top of the list.
United’s third bid for Mount was rejected by Chelsea with a return message of the fee required to sign the England international. It seems United are not willing to move past the value they think is more than fair for a player who has one year left and on his current contract has shown no signs of extending it.
However if Chelsea or United are not able to reach a compromise then it is claimed that the club will start looking at other viable targets instead of paying extra for Mount.
One of the names at the top of the club’s list is Caicedo with United keen admirers of the Ecuadorian. However, he is expected to cost significantly more than Mount.
It is rather typical of the United and as was envisaged last season as well, usually our alternate targets make much more sense and add a lot more to the team than the primary target. Last year, the primary target for the defence was Jurrien Timber and we ended up securing Lisandro Martinez, who was one of the best players for United before his injury.
Similarly, our midfield target was Adrien Rabiot and when the deal fell through, we ended up getting Casemiro who made a big difference to the team since joining.
Not taking anything away from Mount but Caicedo as part of the midfield which includes Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro is just too good to turn down.
Press resistant, has high technical ability with a solid engine, and can cover various positions, Caicedo has it all to be a top midfielder in the Premier League.
