Andre Onana would prefer a move to Manchester United rather than Chelsea

As per the Guardian, Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana would prefer making a move to Manchester United over Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

United have been interested in the Cameroon international as they aim to replace the inconsistent David de Gea in the team.

The Red Devils have been keeping an eye on Porto stopper Diogo Costa. Boss Erik ten Hag wants to buy a new keeper as de Gea’s form wasn’t good during the 2022/23 season. The Spaniard was at fault for the second and match-winning Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Coming back to Onana, he has been excellent for Inter and did extremely well against City in the Champions League final. His passing, command of the box and handling was of an elite level.

In short, the 27-year-old has the experience and quality to do well if United sign him this summer. In fear that they will lose Onana, Inter have already started looking at goalkeepers who are available in the market. One such is Brentford’s David Raya, who is also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur.

For United to take that next step under ten Hag, having a goalkeeper who can do what the manager wants on and off the ball is so important. De Gea’s struggle with the ball at his feet probably affected his confidence in shot-stopping. The latter was something he was good at previously.

Onana, at 27, is at an ideal age for a goalkeeper to come and cement his place in the team for the next 5-6 years, provided he keeps his performance level high. Having worked with ten Hag at Ajax, he would know what the manager wants.
