Anthony Martial will be fit to take part in the pre-season, but his Manchester United future is in doubt

As per the Telegraph (subscription required), 27-year-old Manchester United striker Anthony Martial will be fit for the pre-season next month, but his future at the club is uncertain.

The French international missed the FA Cup final against Manchester City due to a hamstring injury. That was symptomatic of how his United career has gone, especially in the recent past.

The Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag could offload Martial in the summer window to buy a new striker in the hope to rectify the goal-scoring issues of the team.

What we have seen from the latter since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo last November tells us that he cannot be relied upon to score 20+ goals per season consistently. Once that doesn’t happen, United won’t become a top team that can challenge for league titles.

The Guardian has revealed that the club have withdrawn their transfer interest in Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane. Ten Hag is disappointed by that news. It remains to be seen what back-up plans the hierarchy have to bolster that department this summer.

Sky Sports gave an update that United have been in talks with Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani is considered too.

While these two are not better than Kane, they have shown that ten Hag could get more out of either of them compared to what Martial offers.

With the pre-season still a few weeks away, will the latter come back to participate in that or get sold before? In an ideal world, United should let go of him soon and try to get a deal over the line for Hojlund or Kolo Muani or any other target.
