Roy Keane slams Manchester United star for time-wasting at 2-0 up vs Coventry City: “I’m seeing bad habits”

Roy Keane had choice words for Manchester United after their performance on Sunday against Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final.

The United legend criticized the way Erik ten Hag‘s men behaved on the pitch after going 2-0 up in the first half, particularly pointing fingers at the goalkeeper, André Onana.

“[Harry] Maguire said he saw character but I don’t see character. I’m almost getting to the point where I don’t like them.

“I’m seeing bad habits. The goalkeeper is wasting time at 2-0 up, get on with the game and go and flex your muscles.

“They’ll be celebrating getting to a cup final tonight but all this does is put more pressure on the manager.”

United would go on to increase their lead in the second half before letting the Sky Blues make a thrilling comeback to take the game into extra time. A late disallowed Coventry goal saw the game go to penalties, where United snatched the win.

United’s letting-go of a three-goal lead gives further weight to Keane’s comments, with their hopes of making next season’s Champions League all but extinguished.

Before they face Man City in what is a rematch of last year’s FA Cup final, United have six Premier League games left to play to gain some form and finish as strongly as possible as they currently lie seventh with 50 points.

Man United definitely let the game slip

Usually, it’s easy to put aside Keane’s comments as usual grumpy commentary, but that is hard to do for yesterday’s game.

Everyone loves a good underdog story apart from the Goliath that gets slaughtered on the other end; in this case, we need to take a look at United.

Few would have raised an eyebrow if United lost the tie yesterday on the back of a deflated performance from the get-go, but that they almost lost it after going 3-0 up has just further frustrated an already-irate fanbase.

United went through last night despite deserving not to, it’s simple as that.

Players don’t really need to be motivated to keep their guard up this late in a cup run, but that is what was needed for United last night as Coventry almost slipped past them, their fourth goal chalked off only by an offside of mere inches—sheer luck on United’s part.

More Manchester United News-

It simply wasn’t good enough. Keane knew that, and the coach and the players know that too. One can only hope they put up a better, more consistent performance when they return to Wembley next month.
