Manchester United could include Harry Maguire in a potential deal to land Mason Mount from Chelsea next summer, according to The Sun.

The Red Devils are optimistic about acquiring the services of the midfielder in the upcoming transfer window. However, the Old Trafford side are some way off from the £70 million that the Blues want for the 24-year-old.

To that end, the Manchester-based club are weighing up the possibility of including the former Leicester City star, who is valued at £30 million, in a swap.

Mauricio Pochettino, who has recently been appointed in the Stamford Bridge side’s dugout, was previously interested in acquiring the services of the centre-back at Tottenham Hotspur.

As for United, they are desperate to get a hold of Mount’s signature. Premier League rivals Liverpool are also in the race for the England international.

The 24-year-old has been brilliant over the years at Chelsea. But the playmaker has seen a dip in form in the last few months and has also lost his place in the team in the current campaign.

Maguire is the captain of the Old Trafford side. However, the 30-year-old has lost his influence since the previous seasons. Under Erik ten Hag, the English national has been a bit-part player.

The Dutch manager has relied on the partnership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez at the back. Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw have also been ahead of the former Leicester defender in the pecking order.

In the engine room, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have been the go-to duo for the gaffer. But we evidently lack depth. Therefore, it makes sense to get rid of Maguire and strengthen the middle of the park in the process with the addition of Mount to the squad.
