Newcastle United make contact with Manchester United target and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen

Premier League rivals Newcastle United have made contact with Manchester United target and Napoli star Victor Osimhen, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Mirror).

The Red Devils are also looking to acquire the striker’s services in the upcoming transfer window. As a result, the Magpies will have to battle it out with the Old Trafford side to get a hold of the Nigeria international.

On the other hand, the Partenopei have no intention of parting ways with their talisman. The 24-year-old has been their leading goalscorer in the current campaign and the Italian outfit want a minimum of £130 million for him.

Osimhen has been pivotal to Napoli’s success this season. The Partenopei made it deep into the Champions League. They have also gotten their hands on the Scudetto after a 33-year drought.

Luciano Spalletti’s team have been far superior to their competition in Serie A. The Nigerian has found the back of the net 25 times in 31 league appearances in the current campaign.

Newcastle have exceeded expectations this season. The Tyneside outfit finished fourth in the English top flight. Thus, the Geordies will be playing in Europe’s most elite club competition in the 2023/24 campaign.

As for United, we have also booked our place in the UCL. Erik ten Hag has done wonders with the tools at his disposal. The Dutch manager has had to rely on Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst as the only two natural strikers in the squad over the last few months.

Unfortunately, the French national has been injury-prone for most of the season. Therefore, the gaffer has had to call upon the Holland international on a number of occasions. While the Burnley loanee has worked his socks off on the pitch, the 30-year-old leaves a lot to be desired in front of goal.

Osimhen has developed into a ferocious number nine. A player of his quality will evidently improve our team. But will Newcastle’s re-emergence as one of the top teams in England be an obstacle in the Old Trafford side’s pursuit of the 24-year-old? Only time will tell.
