Manchester United are the favourites to sign AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi
Manchester United are leading the race to sign AS Monaco star Axel Disasi and are the ‘favourites’ to acquire his services, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).
At the moment, the futures of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof at the Old Trafford side are uncertain. As a result, the Red Devils are eyeing the France international to bolster their backline ranks if need be.
United have sent their scouts to watch the 25-year-old on a number of occasions. The Manchester-based club have received glowing reports regarding the centre-back.
As a result, the Red Devils have made Disasi their primary defensive target. But the Old Trafford side will also have to contend with Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea in the race for the 25-year-old’s signature.
The French national signed for Monaco in the summer of 2020. Since then, the centre-back has developed into a fine player at the Ligue 1 outfit.
Disasi has been pivotal for the Red and Whites again in the current campaign. The defender has made 42 appearances in all competitions for the French side, scoring six goals and providing four assists.
Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been Ten Hag’s first-choice centre-backs this season. The former Real Madrid star and the Argentine national have been pivotal to the Rd Devils’ success under the Dutch manager.
As a result, Maguire and Lindelof have fallen down the pecking order. Against Nottingham Forest in our last fixture, the two started together for the Old Trafford side after a long time due to Varane and Martinez’s injuries.

However, it would not be a surprise to see the two look for pastures new at the end of the season. In that case, United would evidently need to add reinforcements. Disasi is a quality option for the Red Devils to have on their radar.
