Manchester United and Newcastle United are interested in signing Axel Disasi

As per a tweet from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United and Newcastle United are exploring a move to sign Monaco defender Axel Disasi.

It is also revealed that there have been no bids made yet from either side. The Magpies approached the player’s representatives this week in view to make contact with Monaco in the coming days.

United, on the other hand, have had talks with the defender for a few weeks now but no approach has been made. Erik ten Hag has ‘approved’ a potential deal, provided it happens.

Disasi, now a French international, is a centre-back who is comfortable playing as a right-back. He joined Monaco from fellow Ligue 1 side Stade Reims three years ago.

The 25-year-old played 46 of the 49 games in all competitions as a centre-back last season, scoring six goals and assisting four (Transfermarkt).

With regard to his attributes, the Monaco man is an aerial beast in both boxes. Last season, he had an aerial duel win-loss ratio of 2.6:1.1 in the league. The Frenchman also reads the game well, has the pace to track the runners in transition and does not dive into tackles.

We all know that United were interested in bolstering their central defence by signing Napoli’s Kim Min-jae. But, the South Korean has decided to sign for German champions Bayern Munich.

What this means is that ten Hag might be unsure about the depth he has in that department going into next season when Champions League football beckons for his team.

Hence, if there is a chance, the club should back the manager and help him sign Disasi. Warding the competition of Newcastle won’t be easy though. The Magpies are in Europe’s elite competition as well and they would be wanting to strengthen their squad.
