Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was pleased with the performances of David de Gea after the Red Devils’ 1-0 win over Brentford in the Premier League.

Thomas Frank’s team visited Old Trafford on Wednesday (5 April). However, the Manchester-based club were on top of the proceedings for most of the match and got the lead in the first half and managed to hold on to it.

United’s shot-stopper was key in securing the three points. The Spaniard made a pivotal save in the 67th minute to deny Kevin Schade, who was played through on goal.

However, at the start of the second half, the 32-year-old did have a lapse of judgement. While attempting a long goal-kick, Ivan Toney rushed the former Atletico Madrid star. The ball eventually hit the England international but, thankfully, did not find the back of the net.

Apart from the one minor mishap and the crucial save, De Gea was not tested much throughout the match. Rashford’s strike, in the end, was enough to get us back into the top four.

Speaking after the match via Metro, Ten Hag admitted that mistakes are a part of the game. However, the gaffer praised the Spaniard for being in the right place at the right time when needed.

“When you need David, he is there and when you lose focus, mistakes can happen. We want to play as a machine and don’t make mistakes. We make one mistake and luckily they didn’t benefit from it and also it was the performance from David de Gea.”

The 32-year-old has been the Dutch manager’s go-to between the sticks in the current campaign. Since last season, the shot-stopper has been in fine form for United and has made some clutch saves since the former Ajax head coach’s arrival.

However, De Gea still has certain flaws in his game. The Spaniard leaves a lot to be desired with the ball at his feet. As a result, the goalkeeper’s distribution has evidently hampered us in the current campaign at times.

But Ten Hag does not have a lot of options to choose from. Apart from the 32-year-old, Tom Heaton and Jack Butland are at the gaffer’s disposal. Hopefully, the former Atletico star will weed out his mistakes and continue to perform well until the end of the season.
