Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United are ‘interested’ in West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd, according to Jeunes Footeux via Football365 (h/t Manchester Evening News).

In the upcoming transfer window, the Hammers may be forced to sell the Morocco international. Barring David Moyes’ team’s triumph in the Europa Conference League, they are not expected to play a part in any European competitions next season.

At the moment, the London-based club are languishing around the relegation zone and are in a battle to survive the drop. However, Aguerd has still caught a lot of people’s attention with some solid displays.

For now, Man United’s backline has seen Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez become Erik ten Hag’s preferred duo. The French and Argentine nationals have formed a solid partnership for the Red Devils this season.

However, the Old Trafford side want to bring in the Moroccan to bolster their defensive ranks and provide competition for the two World Cup winners.

The 27-year-old joined West Ham in the summer of 2022 from French outfit Stade Rennais. At the start of the season, the centre-back was out injured. But in the last few months, he has been a key player for Moyes’ team.

As for Liverpool, they have struggled massively in the current campaign. Jurgen Klopp’s team were known for their defensive talent and nouse. However, as things stand, the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate have failed to impress.

With Varane and Martinez Ten Hag’s go-to options, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have found game time hard to come by at Man United. Since the Dutch manager’s arrival, the two have found themselves on the bench most often.

Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see our skipper and the Sweden international contemplate their futures next summer. In case either of them leaves, Aguerd looks like a decent option to reinforce our backline.
