Manchester United contact Olympique Lyon for Houssem Aouar summer transfer
Manchester United have ‘opened talks’ with Olympique Lyon regarding a move for Houssem Aouar in the upcoming transfer window, according to El Chiringuito TV on Twitter (h/t Express).
The 24-year-old’s current contract with Les Gones is set to expire at the end of the season. As a result, the midfielder will be available on a free transfer next summer as things stand.
In the coming months, the Red Devils will look to bolster the middle of the park. To that end, Erik ten Hag has set his sights on the Frenchman, who recently switched his international allegiance to Algeria.
The Old Trafford side have made contact with the Ligue 1 outfit to get in touch with Aouar. But the Manchester-based club will face competition in pursuit of acquiring the midfielder’s services.
Real Betis are also ‘waiting’ for his decision. The Algerian prefers a move to La Liga. However, Champions League football is going to play a part in making up the 24-year-old’s mind.
Aouar has made his way through the youth ranks at the Groupama Stadium side. He has been one of the most promising players over the years. Unfortunately, in the current campaign, injuries have hampered the 24-year-old’s game time and development.
Erik ten Hag was afforded the addition of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the summer of 2022. The two have been impressive this season. But in their absence, the backup players have left a lot to be desired.
The likes of Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek have been inconsistent over the years. In January, we got Marcel Sabitzer on loan to add depth to the middle of the park.

Therefore, the engine room could seemingly do with some fresh blood at the end of the season. Aouar will arrive for free if United opt to get a hold of him. However, will the 24-year-old choose to make a move to Manchester? Only time will tell.
