Olympique Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar ‘turned down’ Manchester United to join Eintracht Frankfurt
Houssem Aouar, currently at Olympique Lyon, has “turned down” Manchester United and is set to join Eintracht Frankfurt next summer, according to Patrick Berger of SPORT1 on Twitter (h/t Express).
The 24-year-old’s current contract with the Ligue 1 outfit expires at the end of the season. As a result, the midfielder will be available on a free transfer in the upcoming transfer window.
It is Die Adler who are ‘close’ to acquiring the France international’s services. The Bundesliga outfit are in advanced negotiations with the player and have offered him €5 million as a signing fee and a salary of around €3 million.
The Red Devils were looking to bring Aouar to Manchester in the previous transfer window on deadline day. In the end, the Old Trafford side added Marcel Sabitzer to their ranks.
Frankfurt will have pulled off a coup if a deal does go through. They are on the verge of losing Daichi Kamada to Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer. Thus, a move for the French national on their part is wise.
The 24-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at Lyon and has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Ligue 1. Over the years, he has been a constant in Les Gones’ starting lineup.
