Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants the club to ‘urgently’ sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, according to SPORT1 journalist Patrick Berger on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).

At the moment, Premier League rivals Manchester City and European giants Real Madrid are the frontrunners in the race to acquire the midfielder’s services.

However, the Red Devils hold an outsider’s chance to get a hold of the 19-year-old’s signature. The former Ajax head coach wants to add a ball-playing number eight to the ranks next summer.

BVB hope to get around £130 million for the England international. But they have not ruled out extending the youngster’s contract and keeping him for another season.

It remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will stump such a large amount for Bellingham. Liverpool have already dropped out of the race for the 19-year-old and instead favour a more holistic midfield rebuild.

The England international signed for Dortmund in the summer of 2020 from Birmingham City. Since then, the youngster has developed into one of the best midfielders in Germany and world football.

United’s engine room saw the addition of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer. While the two have been impressive, in their absence, the Red Devils have struggled in the middle of the park.

The Denmark international has played alongside the Brazilian in the double pivot. However, in the former Bretford star’s absence, the likes of Fred and Scott McTominay have struggled. In recent matches, Bruno Fernandes has also been deployed in a deeper role in the midfield.

Bellingham is a generational talent. A player of the 19-year-old’s quality would seemingly find a way into the Red Devils’ starting lineup. However, will Ten Hag be given the funds to get him next summer? Only time will tell.
