Manchester United ‘keeping tabs’ on Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko ahead of summer transfer window

Manchester United are ‘keeping tabs’ on Red Bull Salzburg star Benjamin Sesko ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).

Next summer, the Red Devils will pursue a number nine. The Old Trafford side are expected to spend a considerable amount on a world-class and Premier League-ready forward.

However, at the moment, RB Leipzig already have a deal in place with their sister outfit to sign the 19-year-old in the coming months. But a large bid could change the course of the youngster’s future.

The Slovenia international has made his way through the youth ranks with the Austrian outfit. In the previous campaign, the striker established himself in Salzburg’s starting lineup.

This season, Sesko has grown from strength to strength and has shown considerable growth and development. He has 29 appearances in all competitions for Matthias Jaissle’s team, scoring eight goals and providing three assists.

After Cristiano Ronaldo’s untimely departure from United in November last year, Erik ten Hag was left with just one natural option for the number nie position in Anthony Martial.

Subsequently, the Red Devils signed Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley in January. The Holland international has featured a lot in recent weeks due to the former AS Monaco star’s unavailability.

Also, the Dutch manager has deployed Marcus Rashford as a striker on a number of occasions. The 25-year-old has been the only reliable and consistent outlet in front of goal for the Old Trafford side this season.

Therefore, we evidently need to add a prolific number nine to the squad next summer. However, Sesko is still young and has a long way to go. It would be wise to monitor the progress of the 19-year-old for now and revisit his signing further down the line.
