Manchester United hold ‘exploratory talks’ for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard
Manchester United have held ‘exploratory talks’ about acquiring the services of Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Express].
The France international’s current contract with the Bundesliga giants is set to expire in the summer of 2024 (transfermarkt). Therefore, the 27-year-old should seemingly not cost as much.
At the moment, Erik ten Hag has relied on Diogo Dalot as the first choice at right-back. The Portugal international has been impressive for most of the season.

The 23-year-old has started in the majority of the fixtures since the arrival of the Dutch manager. Also, the Old Trafford side are in discussion with the former FC Porto star regarding extending his deal.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also at Ten Hag’s disposal. The 25-year-old has found life difficult under the former Ajax head coach. However, in recent months, the defender has been handed a few chances.
The former Crystal Palace star has done well with the opportunities. However, the Red Devils are expected to cash in on the England national should a suitable offer arrive next summer.
Pavard signed for Bayern in the summer of 2019 from VfB Stuttgart. The 2018 World Cup winner has been a regular starter at the Allianz Arena side over the years.
However, the French national has seen his influence dwindle a bit this season. The Bavarians signed Noussair Mazraoui last summer. Joao Cancelo was also brought on loan by Thomas Tuchel’s team in January.

The 27-year-old is a versatile player capable of playing as a right-back or centre-back. Dalot has been a bit underwhelming in recent weeks. Therefore, United could evidently do with someone of the defender’s experience and talent in the squad. But it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will pursue his signature in the coming months.
