Chelsea want £70 million for Mason Mount amidst Manchester United interest
Premier League rivals Chelsea want £70 million to part ways with Mason Mount amidst interest from Manchester United, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro].
The midfielder’s current contract with the Blues is set to expire in the summer of 2024. However, the Stamford Bridge side have been unable to make a lot of progress over an extension.
Recently, the 24-year-old rejected the West London club’s offer of an improved deal. However, Graham Potter’s team are not willing to match the England international’s £200,000-a-week wage demands.
Chelsea have favoured long-term deals since the arrival of Todd Boehly. But Mount does not want to tie his future down to the Blues for a long time.
As a result, the Red Devils are amongst a number of teams who have been alerted to the midfielder’s situation. Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are also monitoring the England international ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
With a year left on Mount’s contract, the Stamford Bridge side’s price tag is seemingly a bit too much. However, it is not always that a player of the 24-year-old’s quality is available on the market.
The England international has been a key player for Chelsea club over the years. In the previous two campaigns, the midfielder was named the West London club’s Fans’ Player of the Year.
For now, United have the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and Marcel Sabitzer as the creative options in the middle of the park. However, any team would be lucky to have a player like Mount in their ranks.
