Teenager sheds light on his experience before rejecting Manchester United for Ajax
Manchester United have lost out on Lasse Abildgaard to Erik ten Hag’s former team Ajax. The 17-year-old winger was very highly rated by the Old Trafford crowd but his heart seems to be set on the Dutch side.
Abilgaard recently shed light on why he rejected the Red Devils. The 17-year-old also admitted to having a trial at the club. Let’s have a closer look at what he had to say while speaking to Tipsbladet.
“I also went to trial training down there [at United] to see what it was like, and we ended up making the decision that it was the best for me.”
Before mentioning his trial for Manchester United, Lasse mentioned his visit to Ajax. He said there were expensive cars all around and guards posted outside the facilities for security. The 17-year-old seems to have taken a liking to the glamour of professional football.
While some may argue he has more potential to succeed at Manchester United, it is not the whole truth. Succeeding at a club of the Red Devils’ stature is extremely more difficult than doing it in the Eredivisie.
Abildgaard would’ve struggled for minutes at Manchester United. On the other hand, he should be able to enjoy regular football with Ajax. The 17-year-old has taken a good decision and has put himself in a position to succeed.
The Red Devils might’ve lost one to the Eredivisie side, but they’ve stolen plenty of players from them thanks to Erik ten Hag. Moreover, they have their own promising young winger in Alejandro Garnacho.
