AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham a backup option for Manchester United if move for preferred targets fail
Manchester United will pursue the signing of AS Roma star Tammy Abraham if they fail to get their referred striker target in the upcoming transfer window, according to The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro].
The 25-year-old is a ‘fall back option’ for the Red Devils if they are unable to pursue their leading targets to make a move to the club. As a result, the England international is on the Old Trafford side’s radar.
First, United will try to acquire the services of either Napoli’s Victor Osimhen or Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane. However, if the Red Devils cannot convince them, then Abraham is on the club’s list to bolster the forward line.
The 25-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at Chelsea. Having broken into the Blues’ starting XI under Frank Lampard, the striker found himself out of Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
Subsequently, the England international joined Roma in the summer of 2021. In the forward’s debut campaign under Jose Mourinho, he was prolific and helped the Giallorossi lift the UEFA Europa Conference League.
However, this season, Abraham has struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis. But the 25-year-old has still been a key member of the Serie A outfit as they are fighting for a top-four spot.
At United, Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst are the two number nines at Erik ten Hag’s disposal, The Holland international is on loan at the club from Burnley until the end of the campaign.
The Red Devils have had to rely on Marcus Rashford to score goals this season. Other forwards have not contributed to a significant amount.

Thus, the Old Trafford side evidently require an out-and-out goalscorer. While Abraham is not the best option out there, it is wise for the club to have him on their radar in case Osimhen and Kane do not make their way to the Theatre of Dreams.
