Erik ten Hag admits emergence of Alejandro Garnacho changes Manchester United transfer plans
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted that the emergence of Alejandro Garnacho this season has changed the club’s transfer plans going forward.
The Argentine national has broken into the senior side in the current campaign. His performances under the Dutch manager have proved vital, with the 18-year-old providing pivotal goals and assists.
Speaking to the media via the Metro, Ten Hag revealed that the Red Devils have a long-term strategy considering who they want to buy. However, the gaffer also talked about the need to revisit those plans due to certain developments in the squad.
“I think our summer plans, we have an idea on the long-term [plans]. You will also look two, three windows ahead and so we have that long-term plan. But also, you have to revisit that plan every time because of developments.
“For instance, who could have expected this development with Garnacho? And so this changes your approach to the window.”
Garancho signed for the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2020 from Atletico Madrid. The 18-year-old thrived in our youth teams in previous years.
Subsequently, the 18-year-old was handed the opportunity to make his way into United’s first team. But at the start of the season, the youngster found it difficult to break into Ten Hag’s plans.
However, the forward was given his full debut against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League group stages. The Red Devils beat the Moldovan outfit 3-0 at home.
Granacho then scored his first goal for the Old Trafford side against Real Sociedad in the final fixture of the UEL group at the Reale Arena. We ended up winning 1-0.
Since then, the gaffer has put more and more faith in the Argentine and he has delivered. The 18-year-old has been clutch in games against the likes of Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup and Fulham and Manchester City in the Premier League.
Against the Cottagers, the youngster scored a stoppage-time winner. In the Manchester derby, the forward came off the bench and provided the assist for Marcus Rashford’s winning goal.
