Manchester United keen on keeping Scott McTominay amidst ‘admirers’ at Newcastle United
Scott McTominay has ‘admirers’ at Newcastle United, but Manchester United have no intention of parting ways with the Scotland international, according to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).
While the Magpies are eyeing the 26-year-old, the Red Devils are keen on keeping hold of him. However, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the midfielder.
McTominay made his way through the youth ranks at the Old Trafford side. Over the years, the 26-year-old has established himself in the Manchester-based club’s first-team squad.
The Scotland international made his debut for United in the 2016/17 campaign under Jose Mourinho. In a 2-0 Premier League loss against Arsenal, the midfielder came on as a substitute in the final minutes.
Since then, McTominay has been a regular member of the senior squad. However, this season, the defensive midfielder seems to have lost his place in the starting lineup.
In the summer of 2022, Casemiro signed for the Red Devils from Real Madrid. The Brazilian has made an immediate impact in Manchester and has made the number six position his own.
The Scotland international initially kept his place in the team under Erik ten Hag. He put in some decent performances that kept the 30-year-old at bay.
However, ever since Casemiro’s Man of the Match display against Everton in his first league start, the Brazilian has not looked back. He has formed a great partnership with Christian Eriksen in the engine room.

Thus, McTominay has become a squad player at the club. It would be wise for the club to cash in on the Man United academy graduate and invest in other prospects. Considering the quality in the middle of the park we possess, it will evidently be hard for the Scottish national to retain his place.
