Manchester United are eyeing a move for Aston Villa shot-stopper and 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina Emiliano Martinez, according to Football Insider (h/t Mirror).

The Red Devils have ‘concrete interest’ in the Lions’ star, who was one of La Abiceleste’s heroes in Qatar. As a result of his performances in the Middle East, the 30-year-old is on The Old Trafford side’s radar.

United’s recruitment team have been impressed by Martinez and rate him highly. The Red Devils have been closely watching the goalkeeper ever since his move to Villa Park from Arsenal. The Argentine is now being backed to succeed David de Gea at the club.

The Spain international has been one of our best players since the previous campaign. The 32-year-old had a shaky start under new manager Erik ten Hag. However, he has recovered admirably.

The former Atletico Madrid star signed for the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2011. Since then, he has been the first name on the team sheet, making a mark at the Manchester-based club.

Martin Dubravka and Tom Heaton are the ones backing up De Gea in the current campaign. The Slovakia international has hardly seen any game time due to the Spaniard’s displays.

Martinez was a bit-part player at Arsenal for years before getting his opportunity in the 2019/20 season. He took the chance with both hands and won the FA Cup title with the Gunners.

Subsequently, the Argentine got a move to Villa. The 30-year-old won the Copa America with La Albiceleste last year and has now topped it off by helping his nation lift the World Cup after 36 years.

While Martinez has gone from strength to strength over the years, Dea Gea is a world-class shot-stopper in his win regards. Thus, it remains to be seen whether United will part ways with the Spaniard for the Argentine in the coming months.
