Transfer News: Manchester United are interested in signing Emiliano Martinez
According to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are interested in signing talented Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez with the uncertainty surrounding David de Gea’s contract at the club.
Martinez has been one of Aston Villa’s best players in recent seasons. The shot-stopper who joined the Villians from Arsenal has since then gone on to establish himself as one of the best goalies in the Premier League during this time.
For a player who warmed the Arsenal benches for many seasons, an injury to Bernd Leno is what Martinez needed to show the world what he is capable of. Ever since it is safe to say that the Argentinian has not looked back.
Manchester United have a bit of a conundrum on their hands. Their superstar shot-stopper David de Gea has a contract with the Red Devils that expires at the end of the current campaign although the club have the option to extend it by one further year. (transfermarkt)
The Red Devils want to tie their talented Spanish goalie to a long-term deal but considering the fact that De Gea is one of the highest earners in the world, there is a fear that the contract negotiations might not be as straightforward as they seem to be.
In the event of the Spanish shot-stopper failing to put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him stay at Old Trafford for many more years, then the Red Devils will want to sign a quality replacement for David de Gea.
The 31-year-old goalie has been an inspirational presence in between the sticks for the Red Devils for much of his time here. After a couple of indifferent seasons in between, De Gea is surely back to his very best.
It will be a huge loss for Manchester United if the Spaniard fails to renew his contract. At 31, De Gea still has a lot of time left in the top flight and the Red Devils will be hoping to continue this association for many seasons to come.
