Wes Brown feels Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo would consider a January exit
Manchester United ace Wes Brown feels Cristiano Ronaldo will consider a move away from the club in January. If an opportunity arises, the former Red Devil believes the five-time Ballon d’Or winner would think about it.
Ronaldo had a brilliant homecoming in the summer of 2021. The 37-year-old ended the previous campaign as our top goalscorer. However, under Erik ten Hag, the Portugal international has mostly had a substitute role.
Speaking on behalf of 888sport via Manchester Evening News, Brown, who was a teammate of Ronaldo during his previous spell at United, thinks the Portuguese will not be happy about sitting on the bench. And the 42-year-old does not rule out the 37-year-old leaving in the winter window.
“Ronnie [Cristiano Ronaldo] is a different breed and he’ll be disappointed that he’s sitting on the bench.
“He’s very respected and looked up to at the club but listen, Ronaldo will want to play. It’s as simple as that. So, if something happens in January I’m pretty sure he would go, but until then I don’t think he’ll disrespect the players by having a sulk and a moan.”
In the previous campaign, Apart from Ronaldo, none of United’s other forward’s contributed significantly. And the Red Devils were dependent on the Portuguese for goals.
The likes of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho failed to live up to expectations last season. The English duo had five goals each to their name in the whole of the 2021/22 campaign.
However, under the Dutch manager, Rashford and Sancho seem to have found their feet. The two have been pivotal for United under Ten Hag during the initial stages of the season.
The Red Devils also have Anthony Martial as an option up front. Anthony Elanga can also be called upon by the gaffer when need be. Ten Hag also added Antony from Ajax to bolster the attack in the recent transfer window.
Ronaldo has started just once in the Premier League. Since the 4-0 loss to Brentford, the Dutch manager has preferred Rashford in the number nine position.
