Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola feels Manchester United getting back to their best under Erik ten Hag
Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, feels Manchester United are getting back to their best under Erik ten Hag. The Spaniard has been impressed by what he has seen from the Red Devils in recent weeks.
Since the start of the 2022/23 campaign, the Old Trafford side have had some mixed periods under the Dutch manager. We lost our opening two fixtures in the Premier League but then went on a four-game win streak in the English top flight, beating the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.
However, United then faced a setback against City at the Etihad Stadium, losing 6-3. The Cityzens dominated us in every area of the pitch. Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both got hat tricks.
And it took the Red Devils a couple of games to get back into their groove. And since the game against Tottenham Hotspur, the Old Trafford side have looked impressive. The Spurs game was one of our best performances under the former Ajax head coach.
United have subsequently drawn against Chelsea and beaten Sheriff Tiraspol. And speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Guardiola admits he has liked the displays of the Old Trafford side recently.
“I have the feeling United are coming back, finally United is coming back. I’ve seen it on Thursday, against Chelsea the first half. I said I like what I see of United right now.
“There will be a lot of teams like United fighting for there. That’s why you have to fight to qualify for the Champions League and fight for the title.”
The Spaniard has tipped the Red Devils to be amongst the teams fighting for a place in the top four. Ten Hag has instilled the same hope in most supporters of being one of the best sides in the PL.
However, we could be hindered in our task of claiming a Champions League berth due to our evident issues in the attack. United’s defence has looked solid overall. However, the forward line has been somewhat underwhelming.
