Erik ten Hag has given his reply to Pep Guardiola’s rivalry remark ahead of the highly anticipated matchup between Manchester United and Man City

Erik ten Hag and Manchester United are prepping to topple Pep Guardiola and his Man City side. Both teams have shared an intense rivalry in the past, however, United’s recent struggles have caused them to fall behind their bitter rivals.

The Red Devils have been chasing the Blues’ shadow for quite some time now. So, it’s no wonder that the people have stopped considering them as a threat to their local rivals. In fact, even Pep Guardiola doesn’t consider the other team in Manchester to be his biggest rivals.

The Spanish manager recently revealed that Jurgen Klopp and his Reds have been his biggest rivals in the Premier League. But, Erik ten Hag was quick to answer back when asked about his rivalry remark, let’s hear what he had to say. (h/t Manchester Evening News)

“For the last decade that’s the way it went and [Guardiola’s comments] are a fair assessment,” he said.

“But we can’t accept it. We have to bounce back, as Sir Jim says. We have to show ambition. We want to be the No.1 – and I think that’s a good ambition.”

The Dutchman added that his team must now come up with the proper strategies to get it done. As Ten Hag mentioned he and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are operating on the same frequency. The INEOS chief also mentioned that he wants to knock the Blues “off their perch”.

It seems like Manchester United have a point to prove tonight. However, the Dutchman will be dealing with a depleted squad so it’ll be interesting to see what approach he adopts. Are we about to see United park the bus at the Etihad Stadium?
