Barcelona signing Diogo Dalot from Manchester United in January transfer window ‘practically impossible’
Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot joining Barcelona in the January transfer window has been ruled out. It is ‘practically impossible’ for the Blaugrana to get a deal done with the Red Devils for the Portugal international, according to Sport (h/t Express).
Barcelona are looking to get the defender in the upcoming winter. However, the Old Trafford side have turned down the Catalan side’s approach for the 23-year-old.
Dalot is in the final year of his current contract. However, United do have the option to extend his deal for an additional season. And amidst interest from clubs like AC Milan, AS Roma, Juventus and Atletico Madrid, the right-back wants to prolong his stay in Manchester.
The Portuguese star has been pivotal for the Red Devils under the Dutch manager. With the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams out of favour, the 23-year-old has started every game for the Old Trafford side.
Dalot has reinvented his career in recent months at United after initial setbacks. The Portugal international signed for the club in the summer of 2018 from FC Porto. However, he was mainly a bit-part player in his first two campaigns in Manchester.
Subsequently, the 23-year-old joined the Rossoneri on loan for the 2020/21 campaign. Upon his return to the Old Trafford side last year, the defender was behind Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order.
But Dalot’s fortunes turned with the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Ralf Rangnick preferred the Portuguese over the former Crystal Palace star. And since then, the 23-year-old has cemented his place in the right-back position, starting every game for us this term.
The former Porto star scored the second goal of his United career against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League on 27 October (Thursday).

With his rising stature at United, it would be wise to keep a hold of the defender. Fans would feel Dalot is having his best season in a red shirt and it would not make sense to part ways with him, especially if we don’t have a world-class replacement potentially lined up.
