David de Gea ‘being offered’ to Spanish clubs ahead of Manchester United contract expiry
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is ‘being offered’ to La Liga clubs by intermediaries ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the season, according to Estadio Deportivo (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The ‘leading and richest’ clubs in Spain are being presented with the 31-year-old’s signature ahead of the next summer transfer window. The shot-stopper’s existing deal is yet to be extended by the Red Devils.
United manager Erik ten Hag admitted recently that the club had not made a decision on prolonging De Gea’s stay in Manchester beyond the current campaign. And the club are in search of a new goalkeeper as well.
The Spaniard signed for the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2011 from Atletico Madrid. And the 31-year-old was an essential member of the Sir Alex Ferguson team that last lifted the Premier League title at M16.
While United have failed to replicate their previous heights of success, De Gea has been influential regardless. The goalkeeper was one of the best goalkeepers in the world for a number of seasons.
However, the 2018 World Cup seemingly derailed him a bit. And the 31-year-old struggled in Manchester for a period of time after that.
Fortunately, the Spaniard has found his feet once again for the Red Devils. Last season, the shot-stopper won the United’s Players’ Player of the Year award.
De Gea’s current campaign under Erik ten Hag got off to a shaky start. However, he has gotten over the initial setbacks. The 31-year-old has once again been pivotal, making game-changing saves. He recently played his 500th game in a red shirt.
