Erik ten Hag hints at Cristiano Ronaldo showdown for full time antics vs Tottenham
Speaking in a post-match press conference following Manchester United’s win against Tottenham as quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Man United boss Erik ten Hag has revealed that he will deal with Cristiano Ronaldo tomorrow regarding the incident where he stormed down the tunnel before the full-time whistle.
The Portuguese superstar was an unused substitute and showed his displeasure at not being brought on by escaping down the tunnel and not celebrating the victory with his teammates. It did not sit down too well with the coach though.
Man United had an impressive performance against Antonio Conte’s men, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes. Ten Hag would have been proud of the display that his team put in today and had a lot of reasons to celebrate.
Ten Hag revealed that he did not want to focus much on the Ronaldo incident and wanted to celebrate the victory that his team had well-earner. It remains to be seen if the 37-year-old faces any repercussions for his actions.
Fred, who started the game ahead of Christian Eriksen with the Dane coming back from an illness, had a night to remember and his performance was a stark contrast to the dismal display that the Brazilian put in against Newcastle United last weekend.
Speaking about the tunnel incident, Erik ten Hag promised to deal with it the next day and played it down for the time being
“I will deal with that tomorrow, not today. We are now celebrating this victory”
It is very clear that the duo of ten Hag and Ronaldo are not really seeing eye to eye this season. The Dutch tactician has shown a clear preference to start Anthony Martial if fit or Marcus Rashford in the striker position.
For a player who has had as impressive a career as the Portuguese superstar has had, it is a huge disappointment to be left on the bench but it does look like age is finally catching up with the 37-year-old superstar.
