Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek could be of interest to Premier League side Aston Villa in the January transfer window. The 25-year-old has not been afforded a lot of game time at the Old Trafford side this season.

Van de Beek joined United in the summer of 2020 from Ajax. The Holland international was one of the best prospects at that time. However, the 25-year-old has failed to live up to fans’ expectations in Manchester.

Speaking to GiveMeSport (h/t Manchester Evening News), journalist Dean Jones suggests the Claret and Blue will look at Van de Beek in the winter window. He also suggests there will be other clubs in the market for the Holland international.

“There are other options that will become available to Van de Beek. Clubs like Aston Villa, who need a fix right now, and by the time we get to January, I’m sure there’ll be two or three others that would like to sign him.”

In the previous campaign, Van de Beek did not start a single game for United in the Premier League. Subsequently, the midfielder ended up moving on loan to Everton in January.

Under Frank Lampard, Van de Beek had a much more prominent role and got to play regularly. However, an injury in March hampered his stay at Goodison Park.

With the arrival of Erik ten Hag, supporters expected Van de Beek to get back to his best. The two worked together in Amsterdam and had a fruitful spell.

However, things seem to have remained the same for the 25-year-old this season. Van de Beek did make a few appearances initially, coming on for cameos at the end of games. However, fitness issues have again been detrimental to his place in the squad.

Ten Hag has also evidently found midfielders like Christian Eriksen and Casemiro to count on. Bruno Fernandes also occupies the number 10 position in the middle of the park.
