Manchester United have been linked with Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Italian outfit have slashed their asking price for the Serbian by half to €50 million, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News).

Lazio wanted double the figure in the recent transfer window for Milinkovic-Savic. However, the midfielder’s current contract with the Serie A outfit is set to expire in 2024.

Milinkovic-Savic has been one of the best players in Italy since he joined the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2015. The Serbian has developed into a potent box-to-box midfielder in recent years.

In the previous campaign, Milinkovic Savic made 47 appearances for Lazio in all competitions. And the midfielder ended with 11 goals and 12 assists last season.

The 27-year-old has been in fine form in the 2022/23 campaign as well. In 12 appearances this season in all competitions, the Serbian has contributed with four goals and seven assists.

United lost several midfielders in the recent transfer window. Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic decided to end their stay in Manchester and leave for Italy.

The Red Devils subsequently signed Christian Eriksen and Casemiro to reinforce the middle of the park in the summer of 2022. And the Danish and Brazilian midfielders have evidently strengthened the team.

Eriksen has started in every game so far for United this season under Erik ten Hag. The 30-year-old has surprised fans with his quality and impact in the side.

Casemiro, on the other hand, has had to bide his time to get into the Dutch manager’s plans. The 30-year-old started his first Premier League game against Everton on the weekend. The Brazilian bagged the Man of The Match award for his performance in the 2-1 victory.
