Club News: Marcus Rashford has backed Cristiano Ronaldo to find his goal-scoring form

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has backed his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo to find his goal-scoring form again.

Ronaldo has struggled in front of goal this season. The 37-year-old has only scored only one goal this season, that being from the penalty spot against FC Sheriff in his side’s 2-0 win in the Europa League win last month.

The same cannot be said for Rashford. The 24-year-old seems to have found his form under Erik ten Hag and has found the back of the net on five different occasions in eight games in all competitions.

But the England international believes that his teammate can find his form again after he assisted his second goal on the night in a 3-2 win against Omonia Nicosia. In an interview published in the Manchester Evening News, Rashford had his say on the Portugal international.

“He’s an unbelievable player and he’s been an unbelievable player ever since I have been watching him. It is a joy to play with him. I should have set him up for a goal at the end but we can keep building and when he starts scoring goals, he won’t stop. We just have to try and keep putting the ball in positions where he’s in front of goal.”

Ronaldo is stuck on 669 goals in his club career and had nine shots against Omonia in their previous game. While the Red Devils won the game 3-2, the five-time Ballon D’or winner failed to find the back of the net.

United will now face Everton later tonight. Both the players are in contention to start the game, although Ronaldo’s last start in the league was in a 4-0 defeat to Brentford in August.

The Toffees have the best defence in the league this season and the Red Devils have won just one of their last four games at Goodison Park. The last time they were here they lost 1-0 in April last season. United will hope to change that and return with all three points today.

CR7, meanwhile, will hope that this is the game where his scoring run resumes in domestic competitions. He has already been dropped to the bench in the last five league games but it is now on him to prove that he is worthy of being in the starting XI – as strange as it may sound, given his status and achievements.
