Transfer News: Barcelona not negotiating with Manchester United for Diogo Dalot

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are not negotiating with Manchester United for talented Portuguese right-back Diogo Dalot as of now and are still concentrating on other options.

Talks of a swap deal between Manchester United and Barcelona that would see Diogo Dalot going to Spain and Sergino Dest coming the other way has been all over the media in recent days. However, that does not seem to be the case if Romano is to be believed.

Barcelona are interested in selling Dest and it could be true that Man United are interested in signing the player, especially considering the fact that the player has played under Erik ten Hag in the past at Amsterdam.

Dalot is a talented full-back but he isn’t a finished product on both ends of the pitch. Right now, he does find himself as the starting right-back for Erik ten Hag (he started in both of our league games this season), but fans would feel like this decision is more out of a lack of options than the manager’s choice.

Selling Dalot or Aaron Wan-Bissaka would facilitate Man United to bring in a new right-back, someone who the Dutch tactician will work well in his team and even Sergino Dest could be the ideal option.

Barcelona are looking for a right-back to replace Dest for the current season. They might not be interested in Dalot but they are already negotiating a deal to sign former Tottenham right-back Juan Foyth from Villarreal.

Although it seems like Dalot is not their primary option for the right-back slot, if they fail to land Foyth, the Spanish club may indeed enter negotiations with the Red Devils for the Portuguese right-back.

Dalot is not a bad player by any means. He has his positives but his ceiling is not very high. He could still be a huge squad player for us to play in rotation with another right-back but him being a starter doesn’t inspire much confidence.
