Transfer News: Manchester United are prepared to launch an official bid for Hakim Ziyech
According to French journalist Nabil Djellit on Twitter (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are prepared to launch an official bid for Chelsea midfielder Hakim Ziyech.
The Red Devils have struggled to tempt any top talent to join their side this summer. Erik ten Hag’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong is still going on with no change in the player’s stance. Now they seem to have started looking at different targets and have identified one from their rivals.
Ziyech is one of Ten Hag’s priority targets and the board is willing to back him up on this as long as Chelsea does not get ‘greedy’ with their valuation of the player. The duo are no strangers to each other, having spent time together at Ajax.
The 29-year-old midfielder joined Chelsea in 2020. Since then he has struggled to establish himself in the team. He won the Champions League with the London side but has struggled to replicate his form at Ajax which earned him the move.
A midfielder that mainly plays as a right-winger, Ziyech could make a good signing for this United side. But the player’s current form could be a concern. Maybe under old mentor Ten Hag, he will be able to replicate his old form.
Ziyech has made 83 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and assisting another 10 in the process. He could play in the midfield along with Christian Eriksen or on the wings with Jadon Sancho.
A versatile player, he would also help in adding depth and competition to the squad. But United are not the only team in this race. AC Milan are also interested in the midfielder, and the Red Devils will have to act fast if they want to secure his signature.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea would be willing to strengthen a direct rival this summer. With two weeks remaining till the transfer window closes, United are running thin on options for players to buy. It will be wise to secure his signature as soon as possible.
