Erik ten Hag insists Manchester United still count on Cristiano Ronaldo
Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester United’s clash against Liverpool as quoted by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag insists that he still counts on Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese is in his plans for the current campaign.
Ronaldo and his future have been up for debate for quite some time now. The player supposedly wants to leave Old Trafford this summer. However, the former Real Madrid man has not yet been able to finalise a transfer.
His attitude has often come into question in the last few weeks. Ronaldo seems to be cutting a very sorry figure at Old Trafford during his time on the pitch and he seems like a man who does not want to belong here.
The return of the prodigal son was expected to propel Man United back to the helm of English football but the reality has been far from that. Ronaldo’s solitary season at Old Trafford has been far from helpful to the club.
Although Ronaldo did have a more than a decent season on a personal note, Man United finished trophyless last season. They also failed to qualify for the Champions League and find themselves in the Europa League.
Erik ten Hag seemed calm about Ronaldo when asked about the future of the Portuguese superstar and counts on the 37-year-old to come good
“I repeat the same – Cristiano is in our plans. That is what I can say. I don’t know why he is the focus. It was the team performance and the whole’s team attitude, including Ronaldo”
Man United have had a dismal start to the season losing both their games in the Premier League till now. Their performances have been abysmal and a lot of work needs to be done by Erik ten Hag to change the squad.
Ronaldo himself has failed to produce anything substantial in the two matches until now. He had a number of chances to score especially in the second game against Brentford but he failed to convert any of the chances.

Both Man United and Ronaldo have to step up their game and their attitude on the pitch for the Red Devils to succeed in this campaign. Erik ten Hag will be hoping to do just that.
