Arsenal to battle Manchester United for Real Sociedad star Alexander Isak
According to the Spanish publication AS (h/t The Sun), Arsenal remain in battle with Manchester United to secure the signature of Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak in the 2022 summer transfer window. He is one of the highly-rated prospects in world football and could be in line to become a superstar in the future.
Isak is subjected to interest from several clubs from the Premier League, namely the Gunners, Man United and Liverpool. As such, he is likely to leave Sociedad after this season, with the Spanish side being aware of that possibility. However, the interested parties would need to part ways with £75million to meet the release clause in his contract.
Mikel Arteta’s side are eager to sign the Swede this summer as they are “in love” with the centre-forward. They tried to facilitate a move in the January transfer window but to no avail. Despite the setback, he continues to be a top target for them as they look to target him at the end of this campaign.
Should Man Utd target Isak?
The 22-year-old has been quiet this season so far after failing to replicate the form he had shown in the last term. He has just eight goals and three assists to his name this campaign from 32 appearances across all competitions. That being said, he has grown as a player overall for both club and country during this period.
We would need to bring in a forward addition, especially in the striker department looking at the current squad. Edinson Cavani has less than six months left in his current contract and seems set to depart after this season. Cristiano Ronaldo has shown signs of decline and would need to be replaced by a quality signing moving forward.
Our other options like Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood are more or less in uncertain waters as well. Rashford has been poor this term and has been linked with an exit, whereas Martial’s and Greenwood’s future seems to be nearing its end at Old Trafford.

Isak could be the way to go but we have some business to take care of if we want to beat the North Londoners and the Reds to his signature. Arteta and co in particular appear to be extremely keen on landing the player.
The release clause may seem a tad too expensive, but with years left in the Swedish international’s playing career, it is understandable why the La Liga club are seeking top dollar for his services. Whether the Manchester club would trigger the option or not remains to be seen in the coming months.
