Transfer News: Manchester United set to battle Man City for Alexander Isak

Transfer News: Manchester United and Manchester City face off against each other for Alexander Isak

According to Fichajes (h/t BBC), Manchester United and Manchester City are said to face off for Alexander Isak. The Swedish striker is one of the most sought strikers following his performances for Real Sociedad.

Isak joined Sociedad after leaving Borussia Dortmund in 2019 and has had a great time in Spain. After joining La Real, the striker has gone on to hit double figures in both seasons. However, he has yet to score in La Liga this season.

The 22-year-old has had a similar time for his national side Sweden as well. He was one of his country’s shining lights in Euro 2020. He continued his form in the World Cup qualifiers, most notably his performance against Spain in their 2-1 win.

The 22-year-old was praised by Gary Lineker after his performance in the Euro 2020. As a result, several clubs are said to be interested in getting his signature.

Arsenal are said to be the other Premier League club that joins United and City among the interested parties. However, it is claimed that both Manchester clubs are more likely to compete for the forward.

It is interesting to note that there is a €90 million release clause in Isak’s contract after he renewed his contract recently. With his current contract set to expire in 2026, it is more likely that the release clause will be activated should any club decide to sign him.

The Red Devils could be looking at the Swedish forward as a long term replacement for their striker position. Both Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo are nearing the end of their careers and Isak could be the way to go.
