Transfer News: Juventus beat Manchester United to Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger

According to the Italian media outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Sun), Juventus have won the race at the expense of Manchester United to reach an agreement with Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger over a summer transfer. He has agreed to a contract proposal from the Italian giants paving the way to move to Turin.

The 29-year-old is in the last year of his existing contract with the Blues, which means that he could leave Stamford Bridge for free in the upcoming summer transfer window. He was on the radar of clubs like Man United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, but it appears that Juventus have won the race.

Thomas Tuchel’s side were keen to tie him down on a new contract, but the recent sanctions prevent them from engaging in contract negotiations. Juventus appear to have acted decisively to seize the advantage and appear to have got their man.

The German is set to sign a four-year contract with the Bianconeri as he prefers them over Bayern and Real. It seems that he did not even entertain offers from Old Trafford due to his current affiliations. He will earn around £5.4million per season at Turin going by this update, but it remains to be seen if this is true or not.

Man Utd lose out on Rudiger?

The Red Devils must turn their attention elsewhere, going by this latest piece of news. This update could prove to be true as the Serie A club can reach a pre-contract agreement with the 29-year-old at this moment. That is not the case for us as the advantage only applies to foreign clubs.

That being said, we should always wait for official sources to come up with the confirmation. As such, there could still be an outside chance that the Manchester club can prise the Premier League star away from the competition. Then again, one would normally wonder whether he would want to ruin his relationship with the Blues fans.

The German international would undoubtedly be a great addition to our backline that is desperate for reinforcements. We have struggled to maintain defensive solidity despite the talents at our disposal. As such, signing the centre-back could have helped us negate the issues to an extent with the immense quality that Rudiger would bring to the team.

Antonio Rudiger has less than six months left on his current deal.

Harry Maguire has really struggled with his form even though he has been made a scapegoat for the team’s lack of cohesion. Raphael Varane is yet to reach the levels from his Real Madrid days, whereas Victor Lindelof has found it difficult to break into the starting lineup.

Phil Jones and Eric Bailly do not instil us with confidence as it seems best to part ways with them. Rudiger would have been a fine choice to bring into the team under these circumstances. Then again, it would be wise if the board would keep their priorities elsewhere.

After all, facilitating a move for Rudiger would be too complex due to his ties with Chelsea. With other options available for him, one can wonder why he would choose us anyway. Hence, the board should look elsewhere for their defensive targets and not waste time chasing a lost cause.
