Manchester United hold talks over potential transfer move for Ajax Amsterdam star Antony in the summer
According to Todo Fichajes (h/t CaughtOffside), Manchester United have opened talks regarding a potential transfer move for Ajax Amsterdam winger Antony at the end of the season.
The Brazilian only moved to the Eredivisie in 2020 after spending his entire career with Sau Paulo in his native homeland, but has already impressed fans and critics with his performances for Ajax over the past two years.
Now, he could be set for yet another move in his playing career as United have eyed him up as an attacking option for them to add to their squad ahead of the next campaign, with the team currently struggling to score goals.
Despite having players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani up front, the Red Devils have failed to score goals regularly and finish off multiple chances. While the former is out of form at the moment, the latter has barely featured this year due to recurring injury problems.
Competition from Liverpool
The summer promises to be an exciting time to be a United fan, with the club looking to welcome a new permanent manager in the dugout. Along with a new boss, the expectation is that the side will beef up their forward options given the scarcity of goals this term.
It is now said that the Old Trafford side have already begun talks to sign Antony for €60m in the summer, although they will hope to get him for a lesser fee. However, any potential move for the 22-year-old is likely to be affected by Liverpool’s interest in him ahead of the new campaign.
The player has gone from strength to strength while at Ajax, making an impression in the Champions League and also earning a national cap for his country after his displays in the Netherlands. Perhaps it may be time for the star to take the next step in his career, and make the move to an elite club.
United offer him the chance to do exactly that, joining a big club in England that is looking to kickstart a new era in their rich history. With the Red Devils, Antony may possibly be promised regular game time given how poor their current forward options have been.

Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga seem to be interim manager Ralf Rangnick’s first choice on the flanks this term, but there is no telling what the new head coach decides next season. Antony’s performances this campaign give him a strong reason to start ahead of the pair if United snap him up.
It would be a major loss to us if we end up losing the Brazil international to arch-rivals Liverpool, who have admittedly gotten the better of us in the past few years in the Premier League. Signing talented stars like Antony is necessary if we have to beef up our squad and rise up to Liverpool’s challenge in the coming seasons.
