Newcastle plan huge bid for Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic amidst Manchester United interest
According to Calciomercato (h/t The Express), Newcastle United have a plan to make a massive bid for Fiorentina superstar Dusan Vlahovic amidst interest from Manchester United for a possible transfer in the future. He has turned the heads of many big clubs with excellent displays in Italy.
Newcastle are plotting to make an opening offer worth £85million ahead of the January transfer window. They are desperate to survive the relegation battle in the Premier League and need reinforcements next month. Man United have been keeping tabs for the past few seasons and would face competition from the Magpies if they want the 21-year-old Serbian hitman.
Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Juventus are also interested in getting the Serie A forward’s signature to boost their squad. He has rejected a contract extension at his current club, which would have made him the highest-earner in La Viola‘s history. He also wants to move elsewhere where he would have a greater chance of winning the Champions League title.
It would indicate that the Toons could struggle to add his name to their list immediately considering they are as far away a Premier League club can be from securing a spot in the UCL next season. Newcastle currently sit 19th in the league table, level on points with Norwich City in 20th. Davide Torchia, the Serbian’s agent, revealed last month that the chances of a transfer next month are minimal which could tell us the current stance from their side.
Exciting target
But if the Magpies are willing to offer such a big amount, then anything can happen. He would be an exciting youngster to bring to Old Trafford if we required an attacker but it remains to be seen if he can become an instant starter at the club.
Looking at our midfield situation and the concerns in defence, a centre-forward should really be one of our lesser priorities currently. Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood have long-term usage, whereas Cristiano Ronaldo is still performing at the top of his game.
Edinson Cavani could leave in the coming transfer windows, but if he finds his fitness, Rangnick can still find a use for him in the forward line. Anthony Elanga is also knocking on the door to make a breakthrough in the senior side while Anthony Martial is always a contender for a place in the frontline as long as he dons United’s red jersey.

We may not be best-placed to win the UCL when our team is compared to the likes of PSG, Manchester City and Liverpool, but it is clear that we are moving in the right direction under Rangnick. The signings of Jadon Sancho, Varane, and Ronaldo shows the pull we still have in the market and speaks volumes about our ambitions going forward. Vlahovic or not, this club will find a way to greatness in the future.
But it would be wrong to think that a potent goal-scorer like Vlahovic wouldn’t instantly add quality and depth to our attack.
